Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
