Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
