Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
