NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
