Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of players often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same notion in nearly all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at first, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an amazing collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many players shooting for the high, as well as many trying for the low. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
