Net Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve final poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
