Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he enjoyed betting on different card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games while playing his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and moved away to New York to play some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He earned some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus attention even more on poker.

The definite improvement in his skills happened when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would regularly challenge one another. He was able to access several of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his cunning thinking abilities. He applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker arena today. Howard relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the following decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
