Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
